Carbonate fuel cell power plants, such as those produced by FuelCell Energy, are stationary power systems that generate electricity and, in some configurations, heat by electrochemically converting fuels like natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen using a molten carbonate electrolyte. These systems are designed for baseload, high-availability operation in applications such as microgrids, industrial facilities, and increasingly data centers, where they can provide distributed, onsite power with high electrical efficiency and reduced local air pollutants compared with combustion-based engines or turbines.[2]
