Wind energy is making progress in New York

New York utilities are embracing renewable energy

Wind energy has managed to find a great deal of success in New York. The state has been promoting the adoption of wind power among its utilities and New York State Electric and Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric have both taken this matter to heart. Both of these utilities have been working to make renewable energy more accessible to a wider range of people throughout New York and have been generally successful. According to both utilities, a combined 68 million kilowatt-hours of wind power was deployed throughout 2013 in the state.

Utilities sell enough energy to power 4,000 homes annually

New York State Electric and Gas leads the way with some 50 million kilowatt-hours of wind power produced in 2013. Rochester Gas and Electric produced approximately 18.3 million kilowatt-hours of wind energy. The electricity that these two utilities generated through wind farms located in New York and neighboring states was consumed primarily by homeowners. Approximately 14,000 New York State Electric and Gas customers purchases electrical power from these wind farms, with 5,200 Rochester Gas and Electric customers doing the same.

Wind continues to gain support because of its financial prospects

Wind power is being promoted in New York as a promising alternative to traditional fossil-fuels. Wind power is often marketed as less expensive than traditional forms of energy in the long run and many homeowners are seeking to take advantage of the financial benefits that are associated with this form of renewable energy. Environmental concerns are also playing a role in the adoption of wind energy. The wind power sold by New York State Electric and Gas and Rochester Gas and Electric has removed a combined total of 47,000 metric tons of carbon emissions from the local environment.

State continues to show more favor for solar power

New York has become one of the most aggressive supporters of clean energy in the U.S. While wind power has managed to win a great deal of support in the state, New York is heavily invested in solar energy. Solar power has received more support because of the fact that it is relatively less expensive than wind energy. Solar panels can also be affixed to the rooftops of homes and large commercial buildings, which makes solar power even more attractive in large cities.
