The Bloom Electrolyzer is a high‑temperature solid oxide electrolyzer cell (SOEC) system designed to produce hydrogen by splitting steam into hydrogen and oxygen using electricity, delivering higher hydrogen output per megawatt than conventional low‑temperature PEM or alkaline electrolyzers and targeting large‑scale clean hydrogen applications.[9]

Solid oxide fuel cells are high-temperature fuel cells that use a solid ceramic electrolyte to generate electricity from fuels such as natural gas, biogas, or hydrogen, offering high electrical efficiency and suitability for stationary power.[10] Bloom Energy is a leading commercial provider of SOFC systems, often installed on customer premises to deliver reliable, lower‑emission baseload power for facilities including data centers and critical infrastructure.[6]

Delaware and California

A high‑temperature solid oxide electrolyzer installation at NASA’s Ames Research Center in Mountain View, California, which Bloom Energy describes as the world’s largest solid oxide electrolyzer and uses to demonstrate high‑efficiency hydrogen production.

A collaborative project between SoCalGas and Bloom Energy to generate hydrogen and blend it into the existing natural gas network at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, intended to showcase how hydrogen can be integrated into gas infrastructure for decarbonization and resilience.

Partnership formed in July 2013 between Bloom Energy and SoftBank to expand the use of fuel cells throughout Japan. The partnership provides Bloom Energy access to the Japanese market and numerous potential customers.
