Solid oxide electrolysers are high‑temperature electrolysis devices that use a solid oxide ceramic electrolyte to split steam (and in some designs steam and carbon dioxide) into hydrogen or syngas, operating at temperatures similar to SOFCs.[10] They are often discussed alongside SOFCs because the same materials and stack architecture can be used in reversible systems that alternately generate electricity or produce hydrogen, offering potential efficiency advantages in power‑to‑gas and energy‑storage applications for industry and microgrids.[10]
