A hydrogen production technology that uses a solid polymeric electrolyte membrane to split water into hydrogen and oxygen using electrical current. PEM electrolyzers are compact, flexible, capable of producing high-purity hydrogen, and can integrate with various renewable energy sources including solar and wind.

Research and development project focused on improving efficiency, cost-competitiveness, and durability of PEM electrolyzers for green hydrogen production. The project develops advanced electrode formulations using catalytic ink techniques, creates a predictive degradation model, and produces a digital optimization algorithm for managing electrolyzer operation to minimize costs and equipment wear.
