Gold H2, a pioneering company in the energy sector that specializes in the production of Gold Hydrogen®, has revealed that its proprietary biotechnology, Black 2 Gold Technology (B2G), is ready for pilot demonstrations and is now available to select gas and oil owners and operators for this purpose.

What is Black 2 Gold Technology?

It is a proprietary industrial biotech process that involves hydrogen-producing microbial technology. Developed by Gold H2, the process upgrades crude oil into biologically produced Gold Hydrogen®, a low-carbon fuel source. B2G disperses the biotechnology into the subsurface, mixing natural systems to convert unrecoverable hydrocarbons into economic hydrogen. According to the company, it’s possible to transform depleted oil reservoirs into subsurface hydrogen biorefineries, when the right conditions are present. With current iterations of its solution, the company targets reservoirs that currently have temperatures between 130 degrees Fahrenheit and 180 degrees Fahrenheit and total dissolved solids concentrated of less than 100 000 ppm. Additionally, they can target reservoirs that have the capacity to be waterflooded with these conditions. Supplementing a water flood injection system, Gold H2 uses an onsite fermentation unit called the Mobile Microbe Manufacturer (M3) to inject its microbes as well as extra nutrients to start the hydrogen production process. Each Mobile Microbe Manufacturer can reportedly convert as many as 120 oil wells, with each well expected to produce up to 2.5-tons-per-day of hydrogen.

Gold H2 has signed an MoU with a major US oil and gas company.

Kicking off the pilot demonstrations will be an unnamed major oil and gas company in the US, with whom Gold H2 recently signed a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It’s significant because it marks the start of a series of pilots with large oil giants over the course of the next year. The pilot will be a commercial demonstration of Gold H2’s first-of-its-kind Gold Hydrogen®-producing tech.
